In these times, you might not notice it but media files, applications, games and even operating systems are memory hugging. Western Digital now presents a hard drive that could solve these issues – Western Digital Green Caviar 3TB Hard Drive – a pioneer in this technology.

WD Green Caviar 3TB
WD Green Caviar is about an inch tall and 5.8 inch thick with model number of WD30EZRSDTL. It has a total of 3TB memory and a cache size of 64MB. It has an interface of 3.0Gb/s, average seek time of 15ms and average latency time of 5.5ms. It is built with an ultra dense four 3.5 inches of 750GB platters.
It has less power consumption, only producing 6W during peak read/write sequential, 5.5W during idle time and 0.8W during standby. This is called the Intellipower Technology.
It is also packed with a GreenPower Technology making it an eco-friendly device. It has a temperature range of only 560 C which is lower than other hard drive. With a low noise of 24/29 dBA in either seek or idle state perfect for quiet components. Rotational speed is also lessened to 5400RPM.
WD makes use of Intelliseek Technology, optimizes seeking while lowering power consumption, noise and vibration. You can chuck fans because of its low temperature and noise during operation. It is effectively designed to lessen wear and tear of its recording head and media as it never touches the disk media which is called the NoTouch Ramp.
Because of excess memory of 2.19TB is not compatible with most hardwares, softwares or firmwares WD included an Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI)-compliant Host Bus Adapter (HBA), in its package. It allows support to large capacity drivers to the OS. WD supplied us with a HighPoint RocketRaid 620 PCI Express 2.0 x 1 SATA III with 6.0Gbps controller card to use with the hard drive allowing seamless installation.
It only requires a 3.5 inch internal drive bay and AHCI platform with PCI-E Slot. To allow the full memory support, it’s best to 64 bit OS like Window 7, Mac OS Snow Leopard and all Linux.
Though it is a great innovation in computers it also generated a lot of problems. The MBR Wall or 2TB Wall, older OS version cannot utilize all four 750GB platters. Newer system is then excluded from this problem when the hard drive is utilized as a storage device. However, it also requires an UEFI motherboard and most now are run by BIOS firmware.
With its memory it could store up to 600,000 10MP digital photos, 750,000 4-minute long 128kbps MP3 songs and 75,000 4-minute long uncompressed songs. More than 230 hours of digital video at 13GB/hr, 1,150 hours of DVD quality video at 2.6GB/hr and 360 HD videos at 8.3GB/hr.
Although it has glitches WD has anticipated is and bundled in their package certain hardwares to efficiently install the hard drive. The Western Digital is capable of higher capacity system ensuring proficiency, consistency and power saving.
