Solid state drive launched recently, were very costly until some time back. Now Solid State Drives (SSD) is becoming affordable. SSD is one thing which seems to take a lot of boom in coming years as price further go down. People prefer standard older driver because SSD are significantly costlier than those.
But now As SSD becomes cheaper, it is worth the extra money considering the following points about Solid State drives and their usage. So here is why you should spend extra and buy and SSD over traditional Hard disks –
1. First and very obvious one is you will see a big performance boost in your computer. Traditional hard drive has sped limitation which is derived from the speed of head movement, speed of rotating platters and position of data being searched. Solid state drives don’t have any moving parts so all these factors are not in place and that are why they are very fast compared to any convention hard disk. As they are much faster than traditional counterparts they remove all the bottlenecks from your configuration which are caused by slow hard disk. Putting a SSD in your desktop will thus gives you a major performance boost.
2. Data stored on SSD is much safer than traditional hard drives. Again the reason is same no moving parts so there is less probability of damage to platters and Hard disk crash. Solid state drives have series of chips holding data just like your pen drive or SD card or RAM does. Only difference between RAM and SSD is RAM is volatile whereas SSD is not. That is SSD stores data even when there is no power. Solid state drives are less crash prone, but extreme heat or irregular voltage supply can easily crash these. So make sure you put a good voltage regulator and cooling fan in your system if you installing the SSD.
3. Third reason for switching to SSD is you don’t have to throw your old drives, to see the performance boost buy a small SSD and use it as your primary Windows disk and store all other files on different drives, which may be still your old conventional drives. Or you can simply use your old drives to dump all the data which you don’t use frequently. This way you can still make use of them and enjoy the advantage of SSD.
